The course provides an in-depth study on new born, child health promotion and disease prevention. Emphasis is placed on the utilization of evidence-based guidelines, family strengths and available resources in the provision of care to well neonates and children and their families.
AIM : To enable the learners to acquire knowledge, skills and appropriate attitudes in the management of well neonates and children and their families.
Intended Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course the learner should be able to:
- Collect a comprehensive health history of a child considering the psychosocial, cultural and spiritual dimensions
- Conduct a systematic physical assessment of children of different age groups using appropriate communication strategies, technologies and techniques.
- Explain types of immunizations and schedules for Malawi
- Demonstrate critical thinking and clinical decision making in child care.
- Explain the importance of accurate documentation and record keeping in under-five clinics.
- Explain the holistic management of new-borns and their families.
