This course introduces Year 2 Biomedical Sciences students to the development, histology, gross anatomy, and functional organization of the musculoskeletal system of the extremities. Emphasis is placed on the structure and relationships of bones, joints, and muscles of the upper and lower limbs, together with their blood supply and innervation.
Students will also develop an understanding of the organization of the nerve plexuses and the clinical importance of peripheral nerves. The course links anatomical structure to function by examining how nerve injuries and lesions affect movement and function of the extremities.
The course integrates developmental, histological, gross anatomical, functional, and clinical perspectives to provide students with a strong foundation for understanding normal limb structure and the consequences of injury or disease.

By the end of the course, students should be able to:
Identify the bones, joints, and muscles of the upper and lower extremities.
Describe the blood supply and innervation of the extremities.
Explain the organization and major branches of the brachial plexus.
Explain how peripheral nerve lesions affect the movement and function of the extremities.
Relate the developmental and histological features of bones and muscles to their gross anatomical structure and function.
