This course introduces Biomedical students in year 2 to the structure and function of the cell and the organization of cells into tissues. It provides a foundation for understanding the microscopic organization of the human body by examining the structural features of the cell, its organelles, intracellular membrane systems, and the functional relationships between cellular components.
The course further introduces the four primary tissues of the human body—epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous tissue—with emphasis on their characteristic histological features, organization, and functions. Students will develop the ability to recognize and describe the microscopic characteristics of different cell types and tissues and relate their structural features to their specific functions.
The course integrates cell biology, histology, and functional anatomy, providing foundational knowledge that will support students' understanding of normal tissue organization and the basis of subsequent anatomical, physiological, pathological, and clinical concepts.
